《視文所-知行藝空間活動》未完成:過渡‧位移‧變形

「未完成」(unfinished)在西方藝術史的脈絡,意義可以指「不完整」(incomplete)、「草繪」(sketched in)、「半完成」(half-finished)、或「不完善」(imperfect)。後現代主義出現之後,「未完成」所蘊含的碎片化、不確定性反過來成為藝術家或策展人的策略,誘發觀者思考作品或展品的完整性、藝術史定位,以及有關於它們的過去、現在和未來。

  策展兼創作團隊是選修視覺文化研究所「博物館與展示文化」課程的研究生,試圖將「未完成」從學術討論擴展到日常生活中的視覺文化,從而觸及更普遍、多元的經驗層面。展覽以「過渡」、「位移」、「變形」作為探討「未完成」主題的三個切面:過渡指在時間維度上的推進;位移指脈絡的轉換;變形指媒介形式或作品內容的變化。本展覽藉由來自學術的視角出發,結合關於「未完成」的個人經驗,企圖探索這一概念如何來回穿梭於藝術、視覺文化和生活的交界。

Unfinished: Transition, Transposition, Transformation

In the context of Western art history, “the unfinished” can signify “incomplete,” “sketched in,” “half-finished,” or “imperfect.” After the emergence of postmodernism, fragmentation and uncertainty implied by “the unfinished” have, in turn, become strategies for artists or curators, prompting viewers to contemplate the idea of completeness of artworks or exhibits, their position in art history, and their past, present, and future.

The curatorial and artistic team consists of graduate students from the elective course “Museums and Exhibition Culture” in the MA in Visual Studies program aiming to extend discussions of “the unfinished” from academia to everyday visual culture, thus reaching broader and more diverse experiential dimensions. The exhibition explores the theme of “the unfinished” through three aspects: transition, transposition, and transformation: transition denotes progress in the temporal dimension; transposition refers to contextual conversions; and transformation indicates changes in medium forms or content. Departing from an academic perspective, this exhibition combines personal experiences related to “the unfinished” in an attempt to explore how this concept traverses between the boundaries of art, visual culture, and life.
